These are add-on workshops that are in addition to the Festival presentations included in the Festival Pass. Most of these have a limit on the number of participants, so get signed up sooner than later.

Biodiversity Survey Field Trip

October 17 & 18 (Two Seperate Events)

A guided field trip into Olympic National park along the Elwha River to observe the process of documenting both above and below ground fungi and preparing samples for DNA sequencing. Field trip  departs from the Clallam County Fairgrounds shuttle from fairgrounds to survey site included. Gather Thursday 10/17 & Friday 10/18 @ 8:30 am to prepare. Field trip includes trails that require attendees to dress properly for entering wilderness areas and capable of hiking uneven terrain unassisted. Field trip is approx. 4.5 hours long including shuttle time.

Welcome Dinner & Keynote

Mushroom Dinner and Keynote speaker Danielle Stevenson presenting on the exciting subject of Mycoremediation. A custom, mushroom themed menu is planned, we will be releasing the menu soon.

Our Friday Dinner sold out FAST in 2023, we have a limit of 125 people.

Felted Fungi w/Elise Campbell

Learn how to needle felt a realistic Morel mushroom using only wool fiber and a felting needle. Whether you are an experienced felter or totally new, Elise will teach tips and tricks to create a solid, well defined, beautiful sculpture. She will discuss wool breeds and presentation, felting needle size and shapes, color blending, and so much more! Bring your enthusiasm, grab your fungi friends and join in on this wonderful, woolly workshop. Workshop held 10/19 from 9:00am - 1:00pm at the Clallam County Fairgrounds in our Beuna Luz workshop space.

Making Mushroom Tinctures

An in-depth dive into making your own tinctures and the medicinal benefits of fungi.

Drew Ryan is an avid forager, mushroom cultivator, educator, an ethically informed applied mycologist and small business owner. Harmonic Hyphae is an up and coming small business that is dedicated to bridging the gap between human and fungal realms; all while listening to the power of nature. He is ultimately a lifelong student of nature, an artist, musician, and all around creative who is inspired by the natural world around us.

FREE: Mushrooms as Art Medium with Tessa Cados

A focused conversation for artists interested in the possibilities for using mushrooms as an alternative medium in art. Tessa Cados will be leading this talk in the Buena Luz Workshops building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds 10/19 from 3:15-4:30

Art in the Field w/Chris Adams

Saturday, October 19th

Join artist Chris Adams in learning about the intersections of Art and Science.  Weather dependent this workshop will be held as a walk on the trails around the venue. Learn the basics of Art and ID while seeking inspiration in nature. 10/19 @ 5:00pm

All the current artwork at Sporelust! has been drawn by Chris over the past decade. He is a lover of nature and a mycoculture enthusiast who has accidentally become an environmental educator through creating work that pairs pop-cultural reference with scientific accuracy.  

FREE Kids Fungi Felting Workshop with Myco

Ages 7-12 only! Join Myco, Olympic Peninsula educator of Wild Child Arts Education and owner of Feral Fine Arts. We will be making a realistic Amanita muscaria mushroom. Prior experience helpful (not needed). Pack kids a water and snack for break.

Do a deep dive into the world of mushrooms at the Olympic Peninsula Fungi Festival with Chef Carol and mycologist/expert forager, Drew Ryan! Learn all about these magical organisms and how to safely forage, complete with a mushroom tasting. Then make savory Oyster Mushroom Stroganoff from scratch and sit down to a delicious fungal feast!
